Open Day Sunday November 25 2012
'Friends of Tiny'
Over thirty people came along to 'Friends of Tiny', an Open Day in honour of Tiny, a big horse with a big heart, who has spent his working life giving rides to young and old, large and small. He caught up with some old friends he hadn't seen for a number of years, and others whom he'd known more recently.
After a long life of giving service, both in a commercial setting and at Riding for the Disabled, Tiny is now enjoying a more restful life in a small herd with unlimited grass. He is in semi-retirement in Arthurs Creek, coming out occasionally to participate in workshops. Many thanks to those who kindly donated towards his pension. He will be well cared for, with regular check ups and daily monitoring.

Goodbye to Glencora
On August 1 2010, Glencora, founding member of Grey Horse Growth and Learning, finally passed away due to colic. She had been suffering periodically from bouts which were obviously distressing for her at the time, but from which she had made good recoveries. She was happily active right up until the last, and was still trotting and cantering up the paddock for her feeds with all the energy of a youngster. She had been with me for 24 of her 31 years and had been the mainstay of the Grey Horse work with little children. Young people and adults alike used to love her woolly appearance and she spent many hours being brushed by people who simply enjoyed the meditative practice of a seemingly never-ending job.
For those who didn't know her, this was her Grey Horse profile:
Glencora is a Connemara mare, thirteen hands high and thirty years old. Connemara ponies were developed in the hills and mountains of Ireland as farmers’ ponies, tough, wiry and ruggedly able to withstand the harshest conditions. Glencora’s thick coat keeps her warm in winter, and becomes increasingly woolly each year. Still happy to participate in light work, despite some arthritis, Glencora’s work history has included trail riding and Pony Club Games. Nowadays she confines her activities to therapeutic and learning work, and her polite temperament and expressive responses to young people make her an ideal member of the Grey Horse team. She is no pushover, however, and will politely make her displeasure obvious to those who overstep the mark.
